Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit

Last Thursday, May 2, was the Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit, hosted by Green Umbrella, Cincinnati’s regional climate collaborative. The Summit brings together a broad cross section of business, nonprofit, government, and educational leaders in Cincinnati and from throughout the Midwest. PEWS, and the University of Cincinnati more broadly, participated actively in this year’s summit.

Some PEWS faculty and students gathered at our table.

As an event sponsor, PEWS had a table at the Summit, alongside the UC Office of Sustainability and the UC student organization Net Impact. PEWS faculty and students from across UC were active Summit participants: discussing PEWS and our partnerships with visitors to our table, participating in sessions, and discussing their research in the poster session.

PEWS sponsored the Sustainability Summit’s first poster session.

UC Office of Research was a primary event sponsor, and PEWS was a planning partner and also sponsored the Summit’s first-ever poster session. The poster session featured over 30 posters highlighting a variety of sustainability research and actions in the region. PEWS Faculty Affiliate Andrew Bernier, Assistant Professor of STEM Education, represented UC on the Summit Planning Committee and chaired the Poster Committee.

PEWS Faculty Affiliate Amanda Webb (CEAS) and her student Hashani De Silva discuss their poster about equitable residential clean energy.

PEWS’s participation in the Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit is part of our ongoing sustainability initiative, supported by the UC Office of Research and by an Interdisciplinary Faculty Team Project Award from the UC Provost’s Office.

See you at next year’s Summit!
