Learn geology at the Northside Farmer’s Market

The Department of Geosciences at University of Cincinnati is excited to announce a new outreach program, Science Harvest, in partnership with the Northside Farmer’s Market in Cincinnati. Graduate students from the department will bring hands-on activities to share their expertise and have conversations with people of all ages who visit the market. Topics will include lake sediment coring, melting glaciers, and sea level rise.

Science Harvest will launch on Wednesday, October 5th. Organic geochemists, including PEWS Graduate Student Affiliate, Meg Corcoran, will share details about the tools they use to study climate change. Corcoran and labmates will have on hand a collected lake sediment core and an activity for kids to try their hands at collecting cores. This program will run every month on the third Wednesday of the month.

The Northside Farmer’s Market runs every Wednesday from 4 to 7pm, outdoors behind Life In Balance (formerly North Church) at 4222 Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45223.

The UC Department of Geosciences also offers presentations to area K-12 classes; learn more about their offerings here.
