The Allergic Experience: Philosophical Reflections on Immune Reactions

Join Science on Tap for an enlightening exploration at the intersection of philosophy and allergy immunology! In this captivating talk, UC students will delve into the profound connections between our philosophical outlooks and the intricate workings of our immune system. From pondering the nature of self and non-self to grappling with questions of identity and existential significance, we uncover how philosophical concepts enrich our understanding of allergies and immunity. The BackWall: Art Uncuffed

Tuesday, April 9th, 4 – 6 PM, TUC’s MainStreet Cinema, Room 2766, University of Cincinnati
The University of Cincinnati College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH) and College of Nursing are deepening the conversation around mass incarceration through the lenses of the arts and community-building. The BackWall event is presented in partnership with nonprofit organization Healing Broken Circles, which provides opportunities for people touched by the justice system to heal, learn and thrive. PEWS Career Panel

PEWS is excited to host a career panel focused on Careers in Public Engagement with Science. This in-person panel session, targeted at UC students, will bring together 4 different perspectives and careers. Panelists include Molly Robertshaw, Sustainability Manager in the City of Cincinnati, Amy Roell, Director of Programming at Great Parks and Emilee Armbuster, Program Manager of the Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative. The event is free and open to all!

WE 4 engage health Showcase

Tuesday, April 16th, 11 AM – 2 PM, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Sabin Auditorium — Location C, 3333 Burnet Avenue
Join a celebration and sharing of comic-style health outreach materials, co-created by community and academic partners over the past 5 years! We Engage 4 Health Program (WE4H) is a program led by an interdisciplinary community-academic partnership seeking to promote community health broadly. The program leverages engaging comic-style stories designed to be read aloud as the characters to initiate non-intimidating but meaningful discussions about complex health and science topics. The showcase will give the community an opportunity to engage with the materials and participate in some hands on activities related to the material. Free parking in main garage off Burnet Ave

Geology in the Park

Tuesday, April 23rd, 11 AM – 4 PM, Trammel Fossil Park, 11989 Tramway Dr, Sharonville, OH 45241
Join UC Department of Geoscience and Sharonville Parks and Recreation for an afternoon of geology and fossils at Trammel Fossil Park. This event is open to the public to learn about local Cincinnati geological history with the chance to look for fossils. Attendees will meet with local experts to discuss the geology of the Cincinnati metro area. At Trammel Fossil Park, guests will interact with some of the area’s most famous fossils. Local experts in the paleontology of the area will be onsite to answer questions and help identify any fossil finds. Learn more here.

Green Drinks is Green Umbrella’s monthly social event that offers an opportunity to network with sustainability leaders from across Greater Cincinnati. Media Training for Scientists

Monday, April 29th, 9AM – 4PM,
Join PEWS for a Media Training by SciLine and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)! PEWS is excited to host this training for PEWS Faculty Affiliates, PEWS Graduate Affiliates, members of the PEWS community and anyone interested in learning more about interactions between scientists and the media. This full-day, in-person event is designed to help scientists understand the ecosystem of US journalism, introduce general science communication skills and practice applying these skills. There will be a mix of presentations and small group breakout sessions. Registration is required, there are only a few spots left! RSVP here.
