Program model
The Adopt A Class program connects teams of individuals (mentors) from businesses and civic groups with economically challenged schools in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky to expose Kindergarten through 8th grade students to a breadth of life and career experiences through group mentorship. The goal of the program is to increase the students’ knowledge of career opportunities and expand their horizons with clearer self-vision.
Mentor teams visit the classroom once a month for one hour during the school year. They stay with the same teacher every year, allowing them to impact a new set of students each year. Once a year, students visit their mentor’s workplace for a field trip, providing them an opportunity to explore the work environment and observe their mentors’ careers in action. Students work with a new group of mentors in each grade to gain experiences and insights into a variety of career paths. Read more about the Adopt A Class Program Model here.
Program impact
Adopt A Class currently has nearly 400 mentor teams from organizations including Procter & Gamble, Fifth Third Bank, Duke Energy, and University of Cincinnati. In total, this program reaches nearly 10,000 students across 48 schools in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Whether it’s a lesson on the importance of a proper handshake, a field trip to explore one of the largest corporations in the world, or simple encouragement from a caring individual, mentors spark inspiration in students to unlock their full potential. Adopt A Class not only benefits students, but the adult volunteers are also impacted too! Corporate and civic partners experience better employee engagement and retention as mentors build stronger relationships within their teams, find a connection in the community, and this provides the opportunity for them to give back in a meaningful and direct way.
