We are always excited to welcome new organizations as community partners of PEWS! Many of our projects at PEWS are developed in partnership with our community partners. We would love to talk to new potential partners about their interests and needs. Below are a few ways PEWS has worked with our community partners.
Resource Dissemination
Planning an event or project related to public engagement with science? PEWS would love to share your message with our network; complete our online form to share your item or email us here. Our monthly newsletter, the Cincinnati Science Roundup, features upcoming events related to science for the public hosted by both PEWS and community partners.
Our resource webpage is a great place to view PEWS developed resources. Many of these resources have been developed by PEWS students, faculty affiliate and leadership. They include recorded science talks for the public, conference presentations, and materials for public events that focus on bringing science to the public.
Student Involvement
Our Engaging Science graduate course sequence provides graduate students at UC with an opportunity to learn more public engagement. This interdisciplinary course sequence features three parts; Sharing Science Experience, a two day workshop, Public Engagement with Science Seminar, a semester long course, and Engaging Science Fellowships, a summer fellowhship. Topics throughout the year include different types and best practices of public engagement with science, strategies for working with community partners and the scientific theory behind public engagement with science.
There are opportunities for community partners to work graduate students from these classes during both the Public Engagement with Science Seminar where students will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop projects for public engagement, to be carried out in local and regional venues. Past projects can be viewed here.
There are also opportunities for graduate students to work with community partners during throughout the summer with our Engaging Science Fellowship. Fellows will be placed with a community organization in Greater Cincinnati to contribute to their public-facing work and execute an independent project in public engagement with science.
If you are interested in working with graduate students or have any questions please email us here.
Event Collaboration
We plan events with our partners that are that are targeted at the UC community and the Cincinnati public. Past events have included career panels featuring panelists from our partners that have careers in public engagement with science and public lectures featuring experts from UC and external renowned authors.
If you are interested in staying up to stay with upcoming PEWS events join our mailing list here. If you are interested in working with us to plan or participate in an event please reach out to engagingscience@uc.edu. We are sometimes able to cosponsor events.
