Science Talks for the Public
PEWS organizes, supports and features a variety of science talks for the public that happen at UC and in the Cincinnati community. These past talks feature PEWS faculty affiliates and other guests including best selling authors and sustainability experts.
Recipes for Science
Short videos for the public on understanding scientific methods and patterns of reasoning. Developed by philosophers at UC that supplement the 2nd edition of the Recipes for Science: An Introduction to Scientific Methods and Reasoning textbook.
Sustainability in Cincinnati
PEWS sustainability initiative strives to highlight research, build community partnerships, and host events related to sustainability. Videos include highlights from the Community Partnerships for Sustainability event and PEWS’ “What is Sustainability” series.
K-12 Projects

Outreach with UC’s Department of Geosciences
Geology graduate students and faculty at UC are interested in partnering with local schools to bring scientific research directly to students through presentations and activities based on their research.

Local Cincinnati Fossil Guide
Science kit focused on local fossils for station activities. Developed by students (Andrea Corpolongo, Jonathan Kanzelmeyer and Matthew Stonecash) in the Public Engagement with Science Graduate Course and the UC Field Station.
Public event kits

Oak Tree Conservation Guide
Poster guide on oak tree conservation for outreach booths. Developed by students in the Public Engagement with Science Graduate Course and the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

Community-Centered Object Interpretation
A museum-based activity that empowers guests to bring their own perspectives and knowledge to the table and engage in real-time object interpretation. Developed by an Engaging Science Fellow and piloted at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Guilty Pleasures: A Sonic Session
A listening activity that engages the public in discussions in philosophy, psychology, and aesthetics. Developed by students in the Public Engagement with Science Graduate Course and the Mercantile Library.
