On September 9th, 2021, the Center sponsored a talk at the Mercantile Library by Dr. Sarah Richardson, Professor of the History of Science and of Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at Harvard. Dr. Richardson discussed genetics and social issues, with a focus on her new book The Maternal Impact.

On March 31st, 2021, the Center sponsored a talk at the Mercantile Library by Dr. Maya Goldenberg about her new book Vaccine Hesitancy: Public Trust, Expertise, and the War on Science.
Fall 2019: The Science & Nature Lecture: A Three-Part Series
The Center sponsored a three part series on climate change at the Mercantile Library entitled “The Science & Nature Lecture.” The three events were included: Understanding Climate Change, Climate Change and Social Justice, and Climate Change and Cincinnati Life.

Fall 2018: Adrian Currie Talk
The Center sponsored a talk by Dr. Adrian Currie, who is Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Philosophy, and Anthropology at University of Exeter. His talk was on his book, Rock, Bone and Ruin. The book is an argument that we should be optimistic about the capacity of geologists, paleontologists, and archaeologists to uncover the deep past.

Guided by PEWS Faculty Affiliate and Department of Journalism professor Jenny Wohlfarth, this timely event featured a panel of scientists and journalists who discussed how news media cover scientific topics in an era plagued with misinformation and disinformation. This event was co-sponsored by PEWS and the Greater Cincinnati Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ)
Spring 2024: Mitchell Thomashow, the Future of Environmental Learning
Dr. Mitchell Thomashow gave a keynote lecture for members of the UC community. The talk addressed the skills, interpretive frameworks, and insights to implement and improve sustainability-related education and action in Cincinnati. This event was part PEWS Sustainability@UC week.
Spring 2024: Alan Lightman, The Miraculous from the Material
On February 9th, Dr. Alan. Lightman gave a talk about how to reconcile scientific understandings of extraordinary natural phenomena with our personal experiences of awe and wonder. This event was co-hosted by the Institute for Research in Sensing, the Center for Public Engagement with Science, the Space Research Institute for Discovery and Exploration, and the Center for Cognition, Action, and Perception.
Spring 2023: Sustainability Awards
The 2023 UC Sustainability Awards celebrate members of the UC community who are leading in the development of cultures of sustainability, and the event included a keynote address by Tisha Livingston, University of Cincinnati Alumna and co-founder of 80 Acres Farms.
