Climate Health Equity Webinar Series

Wednesday, July 10th, 12:00 – 1:00 PM, Online, hosted by Green Umbrella
Join Green Umbrella for a one-hour webinar about how climate change is contributing to a frequent occurrence of extreme weather events and impacts on health outcomes in Greater Cincinnati. They will explore how this issue can be addressed on an individual, institutional, and systemic level. This event is part of the “Climate Health Equity” webinar series, which builds on a recently completed report in partnership with Scioto Analysis, “Climate Health Equity – Analyzing the Impacts of Climate Change and Health Outcomes in Greater Cincinnati.” Register here.

HUB Garden Healthy Nutrition Culinary Class

From Garden to Plate! Join the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati for this Class! As you harvest from the garden, there will be discussions of the different vegetables and herbs, including their health benefits. A cooking demonstration will be provided. Free & open to the public! Meet a Greenspace Hike Series: Licking River Greenway

Friday, July 12th, 3:00 – 4:30 PM, Clayton Meyer Park entrance, 1710 Glenway Ave, Covington, KY 41014
Explore protected and unprotected greenspaces in a hiking series by Green Umbrella’s Greenspace Alliance Program. The series will include explorations of greenspace gems in addition to urban strolls. Hikes will last one hour and allow us to join nature enthusiasts, the nature curious, and environmental conservation professionals as we collectively enjoy our time together outdoors. Local Licking River Greenway conservationist, Stan “The River Man” Nassano, will be leading this hike, enabling us to learn more about the trails’ history and the work that has gone into preserving it. The hike will be mostly flat along gravel paths near the river. Please wear sturdy shoes and be prepared to navigate some sloping terrain and muddy areas. Street parking is available at the park and in a newly paved parking lot south of Rizzo’s Painting (two blocks north of the park). Register here.

Green Cincinnati Seeds of Change Grant Program

The Green Cincinnati Plan Seeds of Change Grant Program is an initiative led by the City of Cincinnati’s Office of Environment and Sustainability. The Program provides funding for community-initiated projects that align with the Green Cincinnati Plan‘s priorities. Summer Bird Walk

Saturday, July 27th, 8:00 – 10:00 AM, Rowe Woods Visitor Center Auditorium, Cincinnati Nature Center
The busy summer season is in full swing for feathery visitors and residents alike. Join the Cincinnati Nature Center for a casual walk to observe the colorful lives of birds along our trails. They will move at a slow pace and walk mostly even terrain. This program runs rain or shine unless there is severe weather and will meet at the map kiosk outside the Rowe Visitor Center at our Rowe Woods location. 

Raisin’ Hellbenders on the River: Concert for Conservation

Saturday, July 27th, 3:00 – 9:00 PM, Thomas More University Biology Field Station, 8309 Mary Ingles Highway, California, KY 41007
Join the Thomas More University Biology Field Station for a day of fun and fellowship on the Ohio River. Listen to live bluegrass music from local bands, enjoy a guided hike, explore their laboratories, purchase raffle tickets for a brand-new kayak from Schack’s Yaks, meet local environmental organizations, paddle on the river, all while supporting our conservation and outreach programs. This is a family friendly event! All ages are welcome. Children under 5 years old enter free. Two Job Opportunities with the City of Cincinnati’s Office of Environment and Sustainability

The City of Cincinnati’s Office of Environment and Sustainability (OES) is excited to announce two full-time Americorps VISTA roles with their office for the 2024-2025 year thanks to a partnership with the Ohio CDC Association! The OES team seeks two justice-oriented, critical-thinking, and proactive collaborators to join our team as we build a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient city for all. More details about the positions can be found here. The Americorps VISTAs will help OES and partners to more effectively reach toward the ambitious 2023 Green Cincinnati Plan goals.
