Courses
- PHIL 1032 How Science Works: Gen Ed course (BoKs NS and QR) provides an introduction to the nature of science and to wide range of scientific methods and patterns of reasoning.
- R&D Group: Students interested in public engagement with science are welcome to get involved with the interdisciplinary PEWS Research and Discussion) group that meets regularly through the year. See the R&D channel in MS Teams for recent topics and meeting announcements. Students may sign up for a 1-credit each semester for involvement in this group (HUM4001).
Internships
- PEWS sometimes mentors UHP summer interns and project-specific undergraduate internships; reach out to discuss your interest in this opportunity.

Courses
- NSCI/SOSC/HUM 7000 Sharing Science Experience: two-day, 1-credit graduate course, (SSE), in partnership with Cincinnati Museum Center. Offered twice each fall semester beginning Fall 2023.
- NSCI/SOSC/HUM 7030 Public Engagement with Science: Interdisciplinary graduate course offered each spring semester beginning Spring 2024.
- Engaging Science Fellowship: Fellows will be placed with a community organization in Greater Cincinnati to contribute to their public-facing work and execute an independent project in public engagement with science during the summer. Students must have completed 7000 and 7030 to qualify.
- R&D Group: Students interested in public engagement with science are welcome to get involved with the interdisciplinary PEWS research and discussion group that meets weekly. See the R&D channel in our MS Teams for recent topics and meeting announcements. Students may sign up for a 1-credit each semester for involvement in this group (HUM7001).
Internships
- PEWS offers paid graduate internships and fellowships each academic year, including Web & Social Media Coordinator, Video & Media Coordinator, Sustainability Fellows, and Research Assistants. Join our mailing list to ensure you see position announcements.
Graduate Student Affiliates
- Graduate students who have completed at least two projects with PEWS and have a continuing interest in public engagement with science are invited to apply to become a PEWS Graduate Student Affiliate.

Non-Profit and Community Leadership: The non-profit and community leadership (ORGL-NP) track will provide an interdisciplinary set of knowledge and skills needed to work and lead in the nonprofit, community organizations, civil society organizations, charities, nongovernmental organizations, advocacy groups, or public sector.
Communicating Science, Health, Environment, and Risk: The Communicating Science, Health, Environment & Risk Certificate helps students gain in-depth understanding and practical experience in the areas of health and environmental communication, science, and risk.
Digital Engagement: The Digital Engagement Certificate is designed to give students a theoretical understanding and practical experience in the area of digital technology engagement, integrating technological skills and knowledge with digital literacy and digital competency.
Global Health Studies: Within the Global Health Studies certificate, Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the global burden of disease and threats to well-being.
Graduate:
STEM and Sustainability Education: The STEM and Sustainability Education Certificate provides a background in the foundation of integrated STEM instruction and sustainability education. Our graduate certificate equips teachers, administrators, and informal educators with the instructional knowledge to help learners navigate a less predictable world.Â
Museum Studies: If you are interested in working in museums, galleries, historic homes, libraries, archives, or zoos and aquariums, a Museum Studies Certificate can provide insight into the structure and processes within a organization, the theories applied, knowledge and hands on skills needed to perform specialized duties within a museum environment.
Graduate Certificate in Community-Engaged Research for Health: The certificate program is geared towards graduate students, faculty members, and academic or community researchers who are interested in integrating community engagement into their research design.
