The University of Cincinnati’s Center for Public Engagement with Science (PEWS) works to expand and enrich the interface between science and the public to benefit all stakeholders. This work is essential as scientific literacy, trust, and public participation directly impact community health, environmental sustainability, and informed civic participation.

PEWS is a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary initiative to transform how science connects with society:

We seek philanthropic support for this transformative work, including expanding our programming for K-12 students and other communities in Greater Cincinnati, supporting new scientific research addressing real issues of public concern, and developing new web resources. All of these activities contribute to University of Cincinnati’s national leadership in this innovative work.

Public research universities like the University of Cincinnati have an obligation to ensure their research serves the public good. PEWS transforms this obligation into action by creating meaningful connections between university scientists and community members, fostering mutual understanding and collaborative problem-solving.

PEWS enhances UC’s reputation as a community partner and attracts funding from agencies prioritizing broader impacts. Philanthropic investment leverages significant university resources and attracts additional federal and foundation funding to support PEWS’s long-term sustainability.
