National Trails Day Sunrise Hike and Coffee

Saturday, June 1st, 6:00 AM – 7:30 AM, Rowe Woods Visitor Center Auditorium, Cincinnati Nature Center
Start summer off right with a cool early morning hike, followed by hot coffee. Join the Cincinnati Nature Center in celebrating their award-winning trails on a moderate-paced forest hike. On your way, you will take advantage of the early morning wildlife activity and do a little tracking and birding. Participants should expect some uneven terrain and occasional hills. Preregistration required. Member adult $10; nonmember adult $20 (includes daily admission). Participants should meet at the map kiosk in front of the Rowe Visitor Center at the Nature Center’s Rowe Woods location. 

Greater Cincinnati Regional Green Schoolyards Summit

Join school district leaders, elected officials, and community organizations at Aiken High School for a day of learning, networking, and celebrating collaboration – hosted by the Green Schoolyards Action Network. The Summit will showcase the collaboration between Green Umbrella, Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS), and the City of Cincinnati to implement a district-wide Green Schoolyards initiative focused on providing equitable access to outdoor learning and environmental educational resources for all students and staff members. Topics covered throughout the day will include Facilities & Maintenance, Curriculum & Instruction, Food Service & Nutrition, Navigating Funding Opportunities, and Green Workforce Skills Development. Meet a Greenspace Hiking Series: Highland Cemetery Nature Trails

Thursday, June 7th, 3:00 – 4:00 PM, Highland Cemetery Nature Trails, Fort Mitchell at 2167 Dixie Highway
Explore protected and unprotected greenspaces in a hiking series by Green Umbrella’s Greenspace Alliance Program. The series will include explorations of greenspace gems in addition to urban strolls. The next hike will occur on Friday, June 7th, at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery Nature Trails, a 150-acre wooded portion of the cemetery that supports a second-growth forest. From the cemetery entrance, take all right-hand turns to reach the trailhead parking area across from the bird feeders. It will be marked by a Little Free Library. Zoology at Geier Collections and Research Center

Saturday June, 8th, 1:00 – 2:30 PM, Cincinnati Museum Center, 1301 Western Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45203
Cincinnati Museum Center’s Zoology Collections, which dates back to the mid-19th century, contains well over 250,000 animal specimens. Visit with Dr. Heather Farrington, who oversees seven main taxonomic branches of invertebrate and vertebrate areas of zoology at the Geier Collections and Research Center. See mounted specimens of mammals, birds and reptiles from not only the Ohio Valley but also around the world. Hear how Cincinnati Museum Center is doing DNA research on tissue samples in evolutionary biology. There is standing during this 1.5 hour tour. Register here by June 4.

Green Drinks with Green Umbrella

Join Green Umbrella on Thursday, June 13th at Urban Artifact for an evening of informal networking. Green Drinks is Green Umbrella’s monthly social event that offers an opportunity to network with sustainability leaders from across Greater Cincinnati. This free event is open to anyone interested in climate action issues and getting involved in local sustainability initiatives. This month’s Green Drinks will take place at Urban Artifact, an award-winning craft brewery specializing in fruit. Established in 2015 in the historic St Patrick’s church facility in Northside, Urban Artifact are now the largest fruit brewery in the world and have been innovating and pushing the industry by developing new methods and coining new styles. 

Pollinator week at the Cincinnati Zoo

Learn about the importance of pollinators and how to grow pollinator-friendly gardens during Pollinator Week at the Cincinnati Zoo! Stations will be set up throughout the Zoo where you can enjoy games, activities, and hear about what the Zoo is doing to support pollinators far and wide! Activities and stations include an information table at Vine Street Village, Bioblitz/Pollinators 101 at Vine Street Village, Zoo Teen Invasive Species Removal 101 at Vine Street Village, Garden Engagement Station, Pollination Station at World of the Insect.

Spark in the Dark with Great Parks of Hamilton County

Great Parks of Hamilton County invites you light up the lake and illuminate the night! Float on glowing boats as the water glints and gleams, activate all five senses on a family-friendly nighttime hike, and meet some educational animals at this dazzling nocturnal night out. Tell stories around a campfire, chow down at the snack bar, and glow wild at Miami Whitewater Forest. From moths and moons to bats and bugs, there’s so much to explore once the sun has set! Join Great Parks for this event showcasing Miami Whitewater Forest like you’ve never seen it before. Pre-registration is not required. Fees for glow boat rentals and other activities are payable on-site.
