UC Sustainability Awards Winners

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s UC Sustainability Awards, hosted by the Office of Sustainability! The Sustainability Awards encourage and incentivize the UC community to build and enhance our culture of sustainability while also supporting academic excellence, urban impact, and innovation.

This year’s winners were Sid Thatham (staff award), Victoria Carr (faculty award), Bob Hyland (faculty award), Daniel Murphy (research award), and Sofia Ferrigolo (student award).

Sustainability@UC Week 2025 included over 20 events and 2 campaigns for researchers, educators, staff, students, and the public. See pictures from a sample of these events below!

SustainabiliTEA, sponsored by SEaS, brought together undergraduates to share some tea, learn about sustainability tips for the winter, and form community!

The Campus Opportunities Fair, sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, SEaS, and Net Impact, showcased sustainability opportunities around UC and beyond.

The Sustainability Educators’ Lunch, sponsored by PEWS and SEaS, brought together faculty and administrators from around UC to discuss pedagogy, course planning, and collaborative opportunities.

Niall Kirkwood’s public lecture on “Beyond Brownfields,” sponsored by PEWS, drew a large crowd as he shared his insights from decades of work in landscape architecture and environmental engineering.

The grad student mixer and celebration, sponsored by SEaS and PEWS, generated new ideas about how grad students interested in sustainability can stay connected and get involved!

The Critical Walk, sponsored by SEaS and the Taft Research Center, provided an opportunity for mindful reflection as participants walked and read curated passages from Ruha Benjamin’s Viral Justice: Building the World We Want.
