The Center for Public Engagement with Science has now released the full Sustainability Highlights interview series, one part of the sustainability initiative funded by Research 2030. The series includes interviews with:
Dr. Carlie Trott, Assistant Professor of Psychology, is a community psychologist whose work focuses on participatory research that engages project participants as co-investigators, thus producing more equitable research outcomes. Most recently, she was involved in the writing of the Cincinnati’s first Climate Equity Indicators Report, which outlines how climate change might affect each of the city’s many neighborhoods.
Dr. Abel Gustafson, Assistant Professor of Science Communication, is an expert on public opinion and strategic communication about sustainability. His recent projects include work with the National Geographic Society studying the motivations driving people to climate action, and testing messages to persuade people towards more sustainable practices.
Dr. Andrew Bernier, Visiting Assistant Professor of STEM Education, has been responsible for overhauling the University of Cincinnati’s STEM Teaching and Learning certificate program. His own research has focused on empowering teachers to make hands-on environmental and sustainability education part of their classroom curriculum.
Dr. James Mack, Professor of Chemistry and Associate Dean of the Division of Natural Sciences, is a specialist in mechanical chemistry, which reduces the need for chemical solvents, potentially reducing waste from large chemical industries like the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Angela Potochnik, Director of PEWS and Professor of Philosophy, researches philosophy of science and philosophy of biology and leads the PEWS sustainability initiative.
Dr. Patrick Ray, Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering, is a specialist in the development and application of water resource systems. He works with organizations like the World Bank, the United Nations, and the Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate the sustainability and resilience of water resource systems in high water stress areas globally.
Along with these interviews, there are two compilation videos focused on defining sustainability and offering advice for those looking to live more sustainably.
