PEWS 2023-2024 Graduate Student Internships

The UC Center for Public Engagement with Science (PEWS) is seeking graduate students for these part-time paid internships during the 2023-2024 Academic Year. Deadline to apply: Friday 4/28/23

Science Fair Fellow

Support the Bringing Philosophy to Science Fairs initiative led by Melissa Jacquart, including assisting with lesson plan design and facilitation, researching approaches to science fairs, and supporting workshop planning. No experience required, but experience with science fairs, philosophy of science, or middle and high school science curriculum may be useful. Compensation: $5,000 for 5 hours/week Fall 2023 & Spring 2024  

Sustainability Fellow

Support the PEWS Sustainability initiative sponsored by Research2030, including planning interdisciplinary sustainability events and assisting with sustainability-related grant submissions. Interest and experience in interdisciplinary sustainability research is desired. Compensation: $5,000 for 5 hours/week Fall 2023 & Spring 2024  

Web and Social Medial Coordinator

Assist with updates to the PEWS website, announcements for the PEWS News and email list, and social media content (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram). Familiarity with WordPress, Mail Chimp, and social media is desired. Compensation: $2,500 for 2 hours/week August 2023 – August 2024  

Video and Media Coordinator

Assist with video recording and streaming of occasional events, producing video content, and designing flyers. Facility with InDesign and video editing desired. Compensation: $2,500 for 2 hours/week August 2023 – August 2024  

PEWS R&D Coordinator

Manage the PEWS Research & Discussion group by posting Teams announcements and reminders of each meetings, materials for meetings, and helping plan guest speakers.  Compensation: $500 for .5 hours/week in Fall Semester 2022 and Spring Semester 2023.

  • your name; 
  • college and department, program of study, year in that program; 
  • which position(s) you are applying for and, if more than one, your order of preference among them; 
  • a brief (one-paragraph) statement of your interest in and qualifications for the position; 
  • a brief (one- or two-paragraph) statement of any experience you have with public engagement with science and any previous involvement with PEWS. 

Please apply by Friday, April 28. Applications will be reviewed for depth of interest in and experience with public engagement with science, qualifications and relevant experience for internship opportunity, and the collective range of interns’ backgrounds and interests.
