On July 28, the College of Arts & Sciences Recruitment Team and Center for Public Engagement with Science (PEWS) partnered with the Central Office of Admissions to bring the spirit of Bearcats for Life to the Ohio State Fair. Together, the team created a fun, interactive booth experience that connected with more than 450 youth and families, sparking curiosity, conversation, and Bearcat pride.

Two hands-on science activities sponsored by PEWS, brought the booth to life. The Buoyancy Boat Challenge invited participants to design aluminum foil boats and test how much weight they could carry before sinking, offering a lesson in buoyancy, cargo capacity, and scientific problem-solving. Meanwhile, the Centrifugal Force Demo wowed fairgoers as they explored the physics behind their favorite carnival rides using simple tools and their predictions.
In addition to the hands-on fun, the A&S Recruitment and Central Admissions teams were on-site to share the wide range of academic opportunities available at UC. From psychology, biology, and political science to creative writing, languages, and environmental studies. They also highlighted UC’s renowned co-op programs and pathways in STEM, business, healthcare, and beyond. Students and families walked away with a better understanding of how UC can support their passions and future goals, no matter their path!

Thanks to this cross-campus collaboration, UC delivered more than just information; we created moments of wonder, excitement, and connection. From hands-on discovery to meaningful conversations about college pathways, we showed what it means to be a Bearcat not just for a day, but for life.
